Counselling Psychologists and Therapy

Counselling Psychologists work with clients with a variety of problems, life issues and crises, using their knowledge of psychology, theory, and research to understand difficulties faced by individuals and deliver evidence based psychological therapy. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the therapeutic relationship and process, and on the needs of specific clients and contexts, so that whatever stage of life or situation individuals are in, understanding of the issues involved and of the emotional well being of the individual is paramount. Counselling Psychologists work collaboratively with clients to explore difficulties and consider

how to make changes that might improve their psychological functioning

Counselling Psychologists are trained and able to practice in at least three major theoretical areas of therapy,  enabling them to respond appropriately and flexibly to individual clients. Standards of practice are maintained by supervision of therapeutic practice and continuing professional development
